Jobs: CV Writing

For today's lesson, I will keep listening to some of your discussions and when you are not discussing, you are going to learn how you can apply for a job, or write a CV. Have a look at the links below.

1. Pick one of the texts to read and do activities for it.

Applying for a job, basic versionhttp://learnenglishteens.britishcouncil.org/skills/writing-skills-practice/applying-job

Applying for a job, more advanced versionhttp://learnenglishteens.britishcouncil.org/skills/writing-skills-practice/cv

2. Go to Classroom and the first post there.

If you worked with the first text: write the text that is called "Applying for a job". If you worked with the second text: write the text that is called "A CV".

3. Finished?

Read this text and write a short summary of it.  http://time.com/money/4982643/6-future-jobs/
Were you surprised about anything that you read? What kind of jobs do you think there will be in the future?

Jobs in the future

Hello class. Unfortunately, I cannot be with you today because I am taking care of year 6's national tests.

Your final task of this project with jobs is to make a presentation. You are going to make a presentation about your dream job and what you need to do to become a/an...
Also make a presentation about yourself, in which you introduce yourself, tell people why you are interested in the job and why you think this occupation suits you. . You can make a presentation on one of the jobs that you have read about, or any other profession.

You should include the following information in your presentation:

  • Introduce yourself briefly.
For example: Hello! My name is XX and I am going to tell you a little bit about myself and why I would make an excellent job as a/an...
I am Y years old and I come from Z.  I have lived here all my life/ I am originally from somewhere else and I moved here when I was...  years old. In my spare time, I ... . I am really good at ...

  • Which job are you telling us about and why?
For example: I want to become for the president of the United States because I have always been interested in leading a country...

Not enough options? Check this list here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_professions

  • Why do you want to become a/an...?

For example: I think I would make a very good .... because I am good at.. and I am...
I handle stress really well. I work well alone as well as in groups. I learn fast and always do my best.

Key phrases to use here:
I am good at....
I am a good/great/excellent ...
I do... very well

I am...

  • Conclusion
For example: Well, that's it for me. Thank you for listening and I hope that you have learned something new.

Keep in mind:
Make a mindmap or jot down keywords of what you are going to include in your presentation. I do not, I repeat, do NOT want you to read from a script.

There are two options for presenting:

  • Make a presentation in class on Wednesday, May 16th. If you want to use Powerpoint or some other tool, that is totally fine.
or...
  • Make a presentation in small groups of 3-4 students.
Let me know which alternative you choose,

Good luck!

Monday, April 23

Correct these tricky sentences:
In pairs, or in goups of three, go through these sentences and try to correct them.
Talk to each other and decide how to write the sentence in a better way.
Explain why you have made the corrections. Take notes.
For this activity, I want you to put pen to paper. If you just copy and paste these sentences into a document, the computer will mark the errors and you will not learn as much. You are supposed to gain knowledge, not the computer.

One other thing that i think is important to the future is that all the people who is there learn each other’s languages.

On the evenings we could do things like a quiz about the difrent countries everybody come from.

I like to make alot of activities on my free time.

In the evenings it will be nice to telling ghost storys

I live in a town who is located in the south of Sweden.

People doesn’t understand that.

On the countryside there are much tourists in the summer
