Crime & Punishment: Inside the World's Toughest Prisons

You've seen two episodes of the series Inside the World's Toughest Prisons. Now you have to compare these two.

Which prison did you think was better? How was it better? How do you think the detainees should be treated?

I want you to write down your thoughts and share the document with me.

Discuss in pairs/groups first and then we`ll discuss together:

What do you think are the reasons why people commit crimes?

Do you think that people who watch a lot of violent films commit more crimes of violence? Why/Why not?

Do you think there are ways in which some crimes can be prevented? If so, what types of crimes and how?

Inventions: Leonardo Da Vinci

One of the smartest people in history was Leonardo da Vinci, an Italian who was  born in 1452. He was an inventor, a scientist, an engineer, a sculptor, an illustrator and an artist. And, as if this was not enough, he was very good at singing and played a lot of musical instruments! It is said that he loved animals so much, he used to buy caged animals just to set them free.

You can listen to a short text about da Vincis life and inventions here: https://www.ovningsmastaren.se/ovningsmastaren/index.php/exercise/ljudmastaren/3810
