Our future jobs II

We continue working with the theme of jobs.

The jobs we'll lose to machines -- and the ones we won't |
A Ted Talk by Anthony Goldbloom:

What kind of jobs do you think we will work with in the future?
Work in pairs and use your imagination.
Create jobs that you think we will work with 2057.

I want you to write a short description of the future jobs, but I also want you to be able to talk about it. Motivate why you think this would be your future job and explain why. Find pictures and add if you want to.

This is a short task that you will work on for 20 minutes before you get your next mission.

Friday, April 21st

Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Last lesson for this first week after Easter break. Here's the plan for today:

  • Finish Grammar grill from Tuesday
  • Revise your texts about "Me in the Future" .Look at the checklist below and make sure you have followed the steps. Also look at the comments I have given you. If there is anything you want to change in your text, do that.
  • Do a Socrative quiz about The Curious Incident  (Write room name SVJ)
  • If you are finished...
  • Work with words on Quizlet or..
  • Do something out of the the English challenge that you can do in a classroom and in less than an hour.

Checklista för respons och bearbetning:

      Har du/skribenten:

1.)

You should use periods, commas and paragraphing. If you find it hard to know when to use this, read the text out loud to yourself. It usually turns out pretty well if you put commas in the places where you make a short pause and a period where you make a longer pause. Commas are also used when you list things. Start a new paragraph when you start with something “new.” Do not start every sentence on a new row!

4.)
ð       punkt och stor bokstav?

Remember that the same writing rules apply for English as for Swedish, that is you start your sentences with a capital letter. I (as in myself) is always capital when you write in English, even when it is in the middle of a sentence. Names of people (both first and last name), places, animals, countries, cities, companies, months, weekdays, etc. should also be with a capital letter.
ð       kontrollerat stavning och grammatik?

Spelling in English is actually quite hard. However, we have fantastic help from our computers! If a word is marked with a red line it is almost always misspelled. If you click on it with two fingers the computer will give you one or more suggestions of how to spell the word. In my experience, it is usually right (computers are smart).
5.)
ð       besvarat alla frågor?
ð       en fungerande inledning och avslutning?
ð       rätt stilnivå (formell/informell)?
ð       inte använt slang?

6.)
ð       inte använt svengelska uttryck?
ð       förklarat svenska begrepp och företeelser?

7.) Bearbeta eventuella punkter utan kryss ovan.

Our future jobs

You have started receiving information about high schools and it is time for you to begin thinking about what you would like to do in the future. You may already have a plan of what you want to do, you may end up sticking with that plan or you may change it - there is still a lot of time to decide what job you would like to have in the future. What is important is that you start thinking about possible career choices.

Over the next few lessons, we are going to work with jobs.
Today we will talk about what kinds of jobs there are and why we work.
On the Monday lesson next week we will think about what kinds of jobs there will be in the future. On the Thursday lesson, you will work on a spoken presentation that you will either do in class the week after that or record yourself and send to me. More information about that will come.

Thursday lesson:

Taboo with different jobs

You work in groups of four. On one desk you put the cards you get upside down.
One student picks a card and tries to explain what you do when you work with the job you see on your card. You are not allowed to say the occupation, instead you need to describe what the person is doing. The other members of the group try to guess which occupation it is. The student that first knows the correct answer will the get the card. When there are no more cards on the desk, you count the cards. The student with most cards has won the game.

Watch the clip below and fill out the form given to you.

Discussion!
Continue working in tyour groups.
Talk about the questions below:

At what age do people usually begin to work in your country? At what age do they retire?
-Do you think it is more important to make a lot of money or to enjoy your job?
-What are some prestigious occupations in your opinion?
-What makes people work? (Why do we work?)
- What is your dream job and why?
