Our future jobs

You have started receiving information about high schools and it is time for you to begin thinking about what you would like to do in the future. You may already have a plan of what you want to do, you may end up sticking with that plan or you may change it - there is still a lot of time to decide what job you would like to have in the future. What is important is that you start thinking about possible career choices.

Over the next few lessons, we are going to work with jobs.
Today we will talk about what kinds of jobs there are and why we work.
On the Monday lesson next week we will think about what kinds of jobs there will be in the future. On the Thursday lesson, you will work on a spoken presentation that you will either do in class the week after that or record yourself and send to me. More information about that will come.

Thursday lesson:

Taboo with different jobs

You work in groups of four. On one desk you put the cards you get upside down.
One student picks a card and tries to explain what you do when you work with the job you see on your card. You are not allowed to say the occupation, instead you need to describe what the person is doing. The other members of the group try to guess which occupation it is. The student that first knows the correct answer will the get the card. When there are no more cards on the desk, you count the cards. The student with most cards has won the game.

Watch the clip below and fill out the form given to you.

Discussion!
Continue working in tyour groups.
Talk about the questions below:

At what age do people usually begin to work in your country? At what age do they retire?
-Do you think it is more important to make a lot of money or to enjoy your job?
-What are some prestigious occupations in your opinion?
-What makes people work? (Why do we work?)
- What is your dream job and why?
