To finish off our India project we are going to watch the movie Slumdog Millionaire and you are going to write a text about it. You will write the text during our lessons. As you watch the movie, keep these questions in mind since it will be easier for you to do the written assignment.

Answer the questions below as thoroughly as you can and write in narrative form; that is not in bullet points. 

• What is the movie Slumdog Millionaire about? Give a short summary about the movie plot.
• Did the images of India shown in the film match the idea you already had of the country? Did you find anything shocking, surprising or new?
• What do you learn about the living conditions in the slums?
• How are the children treated by the gang master?
• What signs of Hinduism do you see in the movie?
• What is dharma and how is that related to karma? Do you see any examples of that in this movie?
• How does Jamal change throughout the movie? 

The movie is two hours long so we will watch it over at least two lessons. The movie skips a bit between what is happening now and what has happened in the past. To make it easier to follow the storyline of the movie, I give you a list of the most important characters down below: 

Jamal- The main character of the movie. The boy who competes in "Who wants to be a millionaire?"

Salim- Jamal's older brother, works for Javed Khan

Latika- the girl that Jamal and Salim meet when they live on the street. She later lives with Javed Khan

Maman- The evil gangster who takes children and gives them "work" to make money for him. 

Sergeant Srinivas- The policeman who interrogates Jamal. 

Prem Kumar- Host of the Indian version of "Who wants to be a millionaire?"

Amitabh Bachchan- a famous Bollywood actor

Javed Khan- A gangster boss
